M.P. Karygiannis sworn in as Parliamentary Secretary in Martin Government

Toronto, Ontario – Prime Minister Paul Martin today appointed the Hon. Jim Karygiannis, P.C., M.P. for Scarborough-Agincourt, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport.  He was sworn in during a ceremony at Government House this afternoon.

Mr. Karygiannis said he was humbled by the confidence and trust that the Prime Minister has placed in him.  “My role will be to continue to work with the Minister of Transport, responding to the economic, environmental, and safety needs of transporting people and goods across Canada. I believe it is important to engage Canadians and stakeholders in meaningful dialogue to develop workable solutions to meet these challenges. I look forward to continuing to be a member of the government team that will make sound decisions regarding our future,” he added.

Mr. Karygiannis was first elected Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt in 1988 and was re-elected for a fifth consecutive term in 2004.  He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in 2003.
